Beluran District, formerly better known as Labuk-Sugut District and has existed since the beginning of the British North Borneo Chartered Company Administration, it is one of the earliest Districts in the State of Sabah. The name Beluran was taken in conjunction with the name of the hill that became the \"Landmark\" of this town, which in the language of Dusun Labuk, Sungai and Tidong is called \"BULUDAN\" The change of name occurred as a result of mispronunciation and spelling in correspondence by English citizens who are not fluent in pronouncing words in the language local causes BULUDAN to change to BELURAN and remains until now. The Beluran District Administration Office was established as early as 1916, however all records and data were destroyed due to the second world war, and the records of District Officers for several years were also destroyed. According to sources from old people, Mr. B.S Willie was appointed as Beluran District Officer in 1945. KLAGAN was the first Labuk Sugut District Administrative Center, but because the area was often flooded, the British Government moved the administrative center to the foothills of Beluran.<\/p>\n

The area of \u200b\u200bBeluran District covers an area of \u200b\u200b5,782 km\u00b2, which makes Beluran District the 6th largest district in Sabah and has 10 Mukims. The total population of Beluran District is 77,125 people in the 2020 census, with the majority of the population living in Pekan and its surroundings. Among the tribes or ethnicities found in Beluran District are the Orang Sungai, Tidung, Suluk, Bajau, Kadazandusun, Rungus, Dumpas, Cocos, Brunei and Chinese ethnic groups. The majority of the population consists of bumiputera and the economic resources for Beluran District are dependent on the Plantation, Agriculture, Fisheries and government\/private sector. The main products of the District are palm oil and marine resources.<\/p>\n

Beluran District is located in the east of Sandakan Division, bordering the Sulu Sea in the east, Sandakan District in the southeast, Telupid District in the southwest, Ranau District in the west, Kota Marudu District in the northwest and Pitas District in the north. The topography of this district in the western part is a projection of the Crocker Range which forms a plateau and hills while in the eastern part it is a lowland, partly forming a mangrove swamp forest on the coast and river estuaries.<\/p>\n
